Roche Pharmaceutical, a main supplier of pathology equipment and consumables to the NHS has made contact with a number of pathology laboratories to report a national issue with disruption to their supply chain.
As a result, Gloucestershire CCG have requested that all practices immediately reduce the number of requests for blood tests by delaying tests for routine monitoring and consider clinical need to allow contingency in the wider system.
- So with immediate effect we are having to cancel all routine blood tests booked, for example, patients booked for annual monitoring for long term conditions, and defer their appointment for 2-4 weeks.
- We will still carry out urgent blood tests, to include – chemo-related, high risk drug monitoring, pre-op bloods if this would impact on planned admissions/diagnostics, urgent bloods that might impact on admission or treatment options, or if the GP feels there is an urgent clinical need.
We know that this will create concern and frustration and for that we are sorry. Unfortunately, it is currently a necessary step to allow the very limited testing facility to be optimally used. We hope that this is only a temporary situation and that the national issue can be resolved as soon as possible.
We will update this page as more information becomes available, and thank you for your understanding as this matter is completely out of our control.
